Sydney, Feb 24 (Inditop.com) Australia’s Queensland parliament will serve an Indian menu, including tandoori chicken, Wednesday as part of the Vindaloo Against Violence initiative to show solidarity with the Indian community.
Vindaloo Against Violence was started by Mia Northrop, a Melbourne woman who is encouraging Australians to take a stand against racial violence by eating out at Indian restaurants.
Australian news agency AAP reported that all lunches and dinners served at state parliament Wednesday will be curries, including tandoori chicken and vegetable pakora.
“Vindaloo Against Violence is the perfect chance for Queenslanders to show their support for the state’s 26,000-strong Indian community,” Multicultural Affairs Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk told parliament.
ABC Radio announcer Spencer Howson Wednesday morning threw a challenge to MPs who thought they could stomach a hot vindaloo.
“Perhaps the chef can come up with an extra hot vindaloo to test their mettle.
“I want to encourage as many Queenslanders as possible to enjoy their favourite curry at their local Indian restaurant today (Wednesday),” she was quoted as saying.
