Sharjah, June 21 (IANS/WAM) The Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin August 11 and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated September 10 this year, a UAE astronomer said.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, astronomer and supervisor of the Sharjah Planetarium, said the crescent moon of the fasting month will be sighted Tuesday, August 10, and Wednesday (August 11) will be the first day of Ramadan.

‘The crescent moon of Shawwal will be born Wednesday, September 8, and sink down 14 minutes before sunset. It will be impossible to see the crescent with naked eye that day and therefore Friday (September 10) will be the first day of Shawwal,’ he said.
