Abu Dhabi, March 30 (IANS/WAM) An exhibition of over 200 ancient treasures dating to 3,000 B.C. are being exhibited in Abu Dhabi.
The relics from the British Museum’s Middle East collection and from the Al Ain National Museum are being displayed under the title ‘Splendours of Mesopotamia’.
The exhibition covers three great centres of Mesopotamian civilization – Sumer, Assyria and Babylon.
It introduces Mesopotamia as the crossroads where art and literature flourished and where the first long-distance communication and trade took place.
‘Splendours of Mesopotamia’ celebrates the origins of the region and the significant advancements made in the Mesopotamian era.
In a lecture series, John Curtis, keeper of the Middle East department at the British Museum, will speak about how Mesopotamia was revealed to the world in the 19th and early 20th centuries, while curator of the exhibition, Nigel Tallis, will explain how ancient Mesopotamia was the world’s first truly urban society.
The relics will be on display till June 27.
