Moscow, Sep 12 (DPA) Russia expressed disappointment with the latest proposals by Iran in the row over Tehran’s nuclear programme, according to media reports Saturday.
An unnamed official in the Russian government was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying that Iran’s proposals provided “unfortunately no detailed answers to the main question”.
On Wednesday, Iran delivered a new package of proposals to the six countries involved in nuclear talks with Tehran, which include China, the US, France, Britain, Germany as well as Russia.
The proposals were too “formal to dispel the unease over (Tehran’s) nuclear programme”, the official said, adding that the international community would review the proposals and decide their next steps.
Many in the international community fear Iran’s nuclear programme may ultimately be used to produce nuclear weapons.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his country would continue what he claims is a peaceful nuclear energy programme.
