Moscow, Nov 30 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Less than half of Russians — about 47 percent — are paying attention to the campaign ahead of the Dec 4 parliamentary elections, an opinion poll said Wednesday.
The people most interested in the election campaign — 66 percent of those polled — are supporters of parties that usually do not get seats in the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, Russian polling agency VTsIOM said.
A vast majority of young people — 74 percent — said they have no interest in the elections.
Despite a surge in internet use in Russia, 59 percent said television was their main source of information about the elections. Print media and radio were far less popular at 19 and 14 percent respectively.
The survey polled 1,600 people in 46 regions.
A similar poll, held prior to the 2003 parliamentary elections, said 60 percent of Russians were then keeping tab on the election campaign.
