Turin (Italy), July 3 (IANS/AKI) Six people have been arrested in Italy for being part of an international internet child pornography ring spread across 27 countries.

According to police, more than 70 others have been arrested in 26 countries in Europe and elsewhere in connection with the case.

The arrests followed a two-year investigation by postal and communications police into the production, publication and distribution of pornographic material and video through internet.

The six – aged between 20 and 30 – which also include a primary school staff and a computer technician are from different areas of Italy from Bolzano in the north to Catania in Sicily.

‘Without any exaggeration, this can be described as a vast operation,’ said Turin’s chief prosecutor, Giancarlo Caselli.

‘Because of its importance, and the involvement of 27 countries including Italy, there is both an enormous quantity of material which has been seized and it shows a particularly sophisticated level of criminal activity,’ the prosecutor said.
