London, June 18 (IANS) India’s Somdev Devvarman and Treat Conrad Huey of the Philippines qualified for the Wimbledon doubles main draw, battling past top seeded Polish pair Tomasz Bednarek and Mateusz Kowalczyk 7-6(8), 7-5, in the second and final round of qualifiers.
Incidentally, it is in the doubles at Wimbledon that Somdev qualified for his first Grand Slam last year.
India’s Harsh Mankad and Serbia’s Ilija Bozoljac have also qualified for the main draw.
As many as five Indians will now be competing in the doubles — Leander Paes, with his prtner Lukas Dlouhy, Mahesh Bhupathi, with his Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi, and Rohan Bopanna who partners Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan.
