Moscow, Aug 10 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian football side Spartak Moscow were drawn against Turkish club Fenerbahce for a place in the Champions League group stage Friday.
The two sides, who both finished second in their domestic leagues last season, have not met in recent years.
Spartak’s Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike comes up against the club he left a year ago in acrimonious circumstances.
Emenike had been a defendant in a Turkish football corruption scandal over his transfer from Karabukspor to Fenerbahce in May 2011. He was cleared but never made an appearance for the Turkish side.
In other playoff ties drawn Friday: Borussia Monchengladbach play Dynamo Kiev, FC Helsingborgs of Norway are up against Celtic, Spanish team Malaga meet Panathinaikos of Greece, Lille face FC Copenhagen, and Portuguese outfit Braga clash with Udinese of Italy.
The first leg matches will take place Aug 21 and 22, with the second leg a week later.
The ten losers are guaranteed a spot in the group stage of the Europa League.
