Colombo, Oct 9 (Xinhua) A Sri Lankan court Friday extended the detention of a doctor accused of treating members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), officials said.

The doctor had allegedly treated wounded rebels while serving in a hospital at Kilinochchi, the former administrative capital of the LTTE.

Colombo additional magistrate Aisha Abdeen was told by the police crime investigation department (CID) that the doctor had also served in the government hospital in Jaffna town.

The court ordered the CID to continue his detention for further investigation.

Four other doctors, who were accused of releasing false information to discredit the government, were allowed bail in August.

The LTTE, which had been fighting for more than two decades for an independent homeland for the minority Tamils in the north and east of the country, was defeated by Sri Lankan troops in May this year.
