Kabul, Sep 8 (DPA) A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle early Tuesday near a part of Kabul’s international airport used by the military, killing two civilians and wounding seven, officials said.
“It was a suicide attack which was carried out by a car near the gate of the military side of Kabul airport,” Zemarai Bashary, an Interior Ministry spokesman, told DPA.
“So far the information we have indicates that two civilians were martyred and six others were injured,” he said.
Public health ministry spokesman Farid Rahid said that city hospitals so far received one dead body and seven injured people, all civilians.
A NATO spokeswoman in the alliance’s headquarters also confirmed the incident, but could not say if there were casualties among its forces.
Ahmad Jamal, a witness, said that the explosion took place as two NATO vehicles were entering the military base inside the airport.
The official from the airport earlier said that the blast was strong enough to break his office windows some distance away.
The airport, located east of Kabul, serves both civil and military purposes and is used as a base for international troops in Afghanistan.
