Kunduz (Afghanistan), Jan 27(IANS) Afghan and NATO-led forces have razed a Taliban stronghold in Imam Sahib district of Afghanistan’s Kunduz province, an official said Thursday.

Kunduz is 250 km north of Afghanistan capital Kabul.

‘Afghan and international forces during a joint operation destroyed Taliban stronghold in Qalbad village and cleared out 20 villages from Taliban insurgents Wednesday in Imam Sahib district,’ Xinhua reported district governor Mohammad Ayub Haqyar as saying.

Haqyar, without giving an exact number of casualties, added that security forces inflicted huge casualties to the militants during the operation.

According to Haqyar, over 130 militants have surrendered to authorities in Imam Sahib district bordering Tajikistan for over the past two months.

Taliban militants, fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops in Afghanistan, are yet to make comments.

Afghan security forces backed by NATO-led troops have been mounting pressure on Taliban fighters in Kunduz and the neighbouring Baghlan and Takhar provinces over the six months.
