Kuala Lumpur, Oct 2 (IANS) Serbian third seed Janko Tipsarevic took home the ATP World Tour Malaysian Open title Sunday after beating Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 7-5 at the indoor Putra Stadium here.
The match was closely fought as the two were pulled to a draw several times before Tipsarevic closed the second set at two hours and six minutes mark, Xinhua reported.
The World No. 17 had helped Serbia clinch the Davis Cup title last year.
In the doubles, Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer boosted their chance of qualifying for the World Tour Finals after beating third seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek 6-1, 6-3.
That was the third title of the year for American Butorac and Rojer from the Netherlands. They are currently one spot shy of making it to the top eight in the ATP Doubles Team Rankings which will make then eligible to play at the season finale in London in November.
