Tokyo, Jan 26 (DPA) Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp plans to recall 1.7 million vehicles worldwide, including 1.28 million in Japan, to repair faulty parts, including defective fuel pipes, the world’s largest automaker said Wednesday.
The recalls in Japan were for 16 models, including the Noah and Voxy minivans, manufactured from May 2000 to October 2008, a Toyota spokeswoman said.
The recall was the second-largest for vehicles in Japan.
A defect in the pipes could result in fuel leaks, Toyota said.
The global recalls were for 421,000 units in North America, Europe and other markets, she said.
Toyota said the automaker would voluntary recall about 245,000 Lexus vehicles sold in the United States to inspect the fuel pressure sensor installation.
No injuries or accidents had been reported because of issues related to the recalls, the spokeswoman said.
It was the latest in a series of recalls by the Japanese carmaker once renowned for the safety and quality of its products.
The company had to recall more than 10 million vehicles worldwide since late 2009 over problems with accelerator pedals, floor mats and brakes.
