Thimpu, May 29 (IANS) Tulana Nan of Kolkata emerged as the women’s singles champion at the ongoing first India-Bhutan Friendship Tennis Championship here on Friday.

Nan ousted Bhutan’s Pema Azarenka Chenzom in straight sets to lift the title. Nan won 6-3, 6-3 and became the first player in the team so far to win a title for Kolkata in the championship being held on the synthetic courts of the Bhutan Tennis Federation.
Abhinansu Borthakur, hailing from the same city as Nan, on the other hand, booked a spot in the final as he made a solid comeback from a set down to win the semifinal against Nagaland’s Keneisezotou Whourie.
Borthakur, after dropping the opening set 3-6, bounced back to level the match by winning the second with the same score of 6-3. The deciding set entered the tie break as both players refused to drop their service games. In the tie breaker, Borthakur proved to be better as he clinched it 7-1.
