Seoul, May 13 (IANS) A reservist went on a shooting spree at a military training camp in South Korea’s capital Seoul on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring three others before committing suicide, the army said.
The 23-year-old reservist, identified only by his surname Choi, “opened fire on his colleagues while receiving training at a military camp in Naegok-dong, southern Seoul”, Yonhap news agency reported citing a statement issued by the army.
Four men in their early and mid-20s were injured, according to a Xinhua news agency report. One of them, shot in the head, died after being taken to a nearby hospital.
Another man was in serious condition after suffering a cardiac arrest. The other two people sustained non-life threatening injuries.
During his military service, Choi was categorised as a Class-B soldier who required the second highest attention for difficulty in adapting to military life. He was treated for depression in the past.
The exact cause of the incident was not known yet. The army said it was investigating the matter.
