Cairo, April 15 (IANS) Two military academy students were killed and six injured on Wednesday in a bomb explosion near a stadium in north Egypt’s Kafr el Sheikh city, according to Egypt’s official MENA news agency.
Ossama Hamdi, the governor of the city, said that the bomb exploded near the stadium where the military academy students had gathered for a bus to take them to the academy, according to a Xinhua report.
It was still unclear if the bomb was planted by a terrorist inside the stadium or hurled from outside, Hamdi said.
The six injured students were being treated in hospital, MENA cited Hamdi as saying. The governor pointed out that one of the students was in critical condition.
Police and army troopers along with civil defence people were at the scene, the governor added.
Egypt has witnessed a surge of bombings after the military ousted former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
The Islamists had vowed to take revenge following the security crackdown on Morsi’s supporters which had left nearly 1,000 people dead and thousands facing trials.
