New York, Oct 10 (DPA) A UN surveillance plane crashed in Haiti Friday, killing all 11 people on board, the UN said.
The dead included the crew members and peacekeepers from Uruguay and Jordan, the UN said. There was no breakdown on the death toll from each of the countries. There was no information about the cause of the crash.
The military plane belonging to the Uruguayan contingent of the UN mission in Haiti was monitoring the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the UN said.
It went down in an area called Fonds-Verrettes, which appears to be inaccessible, officials said. The UN has launched an investigation.
The UN mission has more than 7,000 military and civilian personnel in Haiti, who provide security and help train Haiti’s national police.
