Johannesburg, June 22 (DPA) Uruguay and Mexico qualified Tuesday for the Round of 16 of the football World Cup, knocking hosts South Africa and 2006 finalists France out of the tournament.
Uruguay topped Group A by virtue of a 1-0 win over Mexico in Rustenburg.
Despite the upset, Mexico grabbed second place with four points and went through on goal-difference, ahead of South Africa, after the hosts could manage only a 2-1 win against 10-man France in Bloemfontein.
