Washington, Sep 12 (IANS) US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens was killed in Tuesday’s conflict in Libya’s eastern city of Benghazi, Xinhua reported citing Al Jazeera TV.
Hundreds of protesters, angered by an US movie that allegedly insulted Prophet Mohammad, broke into the US consulate building in Benghazi.
The report said the US ambassador died of suffocation, as protesters set fire at the scene.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed that “a staff member” died in the conflict.
