New York, Jan 11 (DPA) US stocks fell slightly Monday as continued concern about European debt weighed on Wall Street.
Concerns that Portugal could need a bailout have pushed the euro to its lowest levels in four months and renewed jitters about European government debt.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 37.31 points, or 0.32 percent, to 11,637.45. The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was down 1.75 points, or 0.14 percent, to 1,269.75. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 4.63 points, or 0.17 percent, to 2,707.8.
The US currency slid slightly against the euro to 77.22 euro cents from 77.43 euro cents Friday. The dollar dropped against the Japanese currency to 82.7 yen from 83.07 yen.
