Aden, April 14 (IANS/WAM) Yemen LNG on Tuesday halted all its operations in the vicinity of Balhaf, an industrial port town in Yemen, due to the deteriorating security situation, and has started evacuating site personnel.

“Due to further degradation of the security situation in the vicinity of Balhaf, Yemen LNG has decided to stop all LNG producing and exporting operations and start evacuation of the site personnel,” the company said in a statement which was published on its website.
“The plant will remain in a preservation mode,” the company said. “As a consequence of the current situation, Yemen LNG has declared ‘force majeure’, to its various stakeholders.”
The company will continue to survey closely the situation on the plant and its vicinity.
Yemen has been suffering from political unrest and clashes between Houthi rebels and forces loyal to Yemeni President Abd- Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who has fled the country. On March 26, Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies launched airstrikes on the Shia Houthi group that has seized parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and is closing in on the southern port city of Aden.
